The Vieja Argentea is an expert-level fish native to the Usumacinta River in Mexico. It is typically found in quiet pools and backwaters. Due to its large size, a minimum aquarium size of 6’ x 2’ x 2’ is necessary. While a group of juvenile fish can be kept in a 4ft tank initially, they will eventually need to be separated and moved to a larger tank. Consistent and frequent filtering and water changes are recommended, and a substrate of sand or small rounded gravel is ideal.
