The Melanochromis auratus, commonly known as the Auratus Cichlid, is a vibrant and territorial freshwater fish native to Lake Malawi in Africa. Males display striking black and yellow horizontal stripes, while females are generally more subdued with brown and yellow coloring. Known for their aggressive nature, they are best kept in species-specific or well-planned community tanks. These cichlids are active swimmers and require ample space with plenty of hiding spots.
