The fish is long and thin, reaching a maximum length of approximately 6.5 centimeters (2.5 inches). Its red fins are modestly big and mostly greenish-brown in the wild; but, during domestication, it was bred to have long, flowing fins in a range of colors, including purple, blue, green, and red.
