Sunset Hap (Dimidiochromis strigatus)
Tank Size: A tank of at least 379.3 liters (100 gallons) is recommended for a small group.
Temperature: Maintain water temperature between 24-26°C (75-79°F).
Diet: Sunset Haps are piscivores, primarily feeding on smaller fish in the wild. In captivity, they can be fed high-quality carnivore cichlid pellets supplemented with occasional live or frozen foods like small fish, shrimp, or krill.
Tank Conditions: Water pH should be around 7.8-8.6, hardness of 10-20 dGH. Provide efficient filtration and maintain good water quality.
Color: Sunset Haps have a silvery body coloration with iridescent blue markings on the fins. Males may exhibit more intense coloration during breeding, with brighter blue markings and possibly a yellow hue on the body.
Aggression: They are moderately aggressive, scoring around 5 out of 10 on the aggression scale. They can be territorial, especially when establishing dominance or during breeding. Max Size in Liters: Fully matured, they can reach sizes of around 25-30 centimeters. Lifespan: With proper care, Sunset Haps can live up to 8-10 years.
Additional Information: Provide plenty of open swimming space in the tank, as Sunset Haps are active swimmers. They may be aggressive towards smaller tank mates, so it's essential to choose tank mates carefully, preferably larger and similarly aggressive species. Additionally, they may prefer a sandy substrate to mimic their natural habitat.
